The University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security is one of the leading higher education institutions for education in the scientific field of defense and security sciences in the Republic of Croatia.
Criminal investigation, as a subject of education and professional-scientific activity of the University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security, makes this higher education institution specific and unique in Croatia.
Since its foundation in 1971, the higher education institution has been operating as an organizational unit of the Ministry of the Interior, which organizes and implements higher education, primarily for the needs of the police, interested employees of other state administration bodies, as well as civilian students.
In the history of police higher education, the year 1990 stands out, when the Higher School of Internal Affairs was renamed to Faculty of Criminalistics which ran two study programmes: Studies in Internal Affairs and the Higher School for Internal Affairs.
In the year 1995 the Faculty of Criminalistics was renamed to Police College in the line with the new Law on higher education institutions. Two study programmes were introduced:  undergraduate and graduate programme for crime investigation officers. In addition, from 1999 to 2003, the Police College had an eight-semester university study programme in Criminal Investigation, as well as a four-semester professional postgraduate programme in Violent Crime.
In 2005 the Police College adopts the Bologna principles and introduces new two-cycle professional studies - the Professional Undergraduate Study Programme (180 ECTS) and the Professional Graduate Study Programme (120 ECTS).
In addition to its educational mission, the University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security is committed to addressing contemporary challenges and developing solutions based on modern scientific methods and achievements.
