Student Work Placement

Student work placement is a compulsory component of the professional study programmes offered by the University of Applied Sciences in Criminal Investigation and Public Security. It enables students to apply and further develop the theoretical knowledge and professional skills acquired during their studies through practical work in an appropriate organisational unit.

Organisation and Purpose

Student placements are organised by the University of Applied Sciences and carried out in organisational units of the Ministry of the Interior or in institutions whose activities correspond to the professional profile of the respective study programme, for example, public administration bodies and other institutions, as well as organisations operating in the field of security.
The placement is intended to:
  • connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience;
  • familiarise students with the professional tasks for which they are being educated;
  • develop a comprehensive understanding of work processes;
  • enable students to address practical problems and perform professional tasks;
  • prepare students for independent professional work.

The Placement Coordinator organises and monitors student work placements, and each student is assigned a Work Placement Mentor from the host organisational unit. The placement assignment must correspond to the content and objectives of the student’s study programme.

Student Responsibilities

During the placement, students are required to:
  • complete the placement within the period and duration prescribed by their study  programme;
  • comply with the rules of conduct and occupational health and safety regulations applicable at the host organisation;
  • follow the instructions of the mentor and other authorised persons;
  • act responsibly and protect the reputation of both the host organisation and the University of Applied Sciences;
  • safeguard the property of the host organisation;
  • maintain a Work Placement Logbook documenting their daily activities;
  • protect all confidential and classified information obtained during or in connection with the placement.
Upon completion, the Work Placement Logbook must be signed and stamped by the mentor and the head of the host organisational unit and submitted to the Placement Coordinator for verification.

Placements Abroad

Students may also complete work placements abroad through cooperation with foreign institutions or international student organisations. Students are responsible for obtaining any visa or other documents required for their stay abroad. After completing the placement, they must submit confirmation from the host institution, including a description of the tasks performed.
